BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet
The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) is expanding its seismological monitoring in Denmark and is looking for a researcher or senior researcher in seismology to join its seismological group in Copenhagen. The researcher position is for a 4-year period, while the position as senior researcher is permanent. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
Job description
You will contribute to the maintenance of the current network of 8 stations in Denmark and about 20 in Greenland and participate in the expansion of the Danish network with array(s), DAS monitoring and new stations. GEUS is initiating work with DAS analysis and machine learning on seismological data, and you will have the opportunity to help shape this technological transition. GEUS uses SEISAN software for analysis and database, and our servers operate on LINUX, so it will be an advantage if you are familiar with these systems.
You are expected to contribute to generating new projects and securing funding from both public research funds in Denmark and the EU, as well as participate in commercial projects, conduct research, and publish research papers.
You will also be part of the seismology group under GEUS’ Department of Geophysics and Sedimentary Basins. The seismology group is the National Data Center for seismological data for Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland and is responsible for monitoring for earthquakes and other seismological events in Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, utilising DAS monitoring on fibre cables, array techniques and traditional seismic stations. The group consists of three senior researchers and a seismological analyst.
You will participate in the daily analysis of data, where you and your four colleagues will make sure the analysis is always updated. Furthermore, you will together with your four colleagues take turns in the 24/7 rotation as a seismologist on call, in case of a national crisis involving seismological observations.
Your qualifications
We expect you to hold a PhD in geophysics or similar with proven experience in seismology. Hands-on experience with numerical analysis and programming is expected, as is experience with SEISAN or other seismological analysis software.
An interest in participating in fieldwork for the purpose of maintenance and installation of equipment in Denmark and Greenland is an advantage, and a driver’s license, or willingness to acquire one, is practical.
We work collaboratively and have frequent contact with citizens, which requires efficient teamwork and good communication skills. Applicants must be fluent in English (spoken and written), and if not Danish-speaking, willing to learn Danish.
To the position as senior researcher we in addition expect that you have documented research knowledge and experience within the professional areas mentioned under job content. Experience with review of international publications and guidance of students as well as participation in Danish and/or international professional networks.
